New Rave

New Rave is a revival and reinterpretation of the Alternative Dance genre. It gained popularity, particularly in the United Kingdom, during the mid-2000s. "Nu Rave" often refers to a music scene predominant in Britain from 2005 to late 2008. This scene primarily encompasses fast-paced, electronica-inspired indie music. It pays homage to the latter part of the 1980s Madchester and rave movements. The nu-rave aesthetics include vibrant neon colors, while "raving" denotes engaging in nightclub events.

Notable Legends

Klaxons, Trash Fashion, Hadouken!, New Young Pony Club, Shitdisco, and Late of the Pier are the genre's representatives. However, some of these artists later distanced themselves from this genre. Jamie Reynolds, the creator of the band Klaxons, originally introduced the term. Subsequently, Klaxons made a statement disassociating themselves from the genre. He characterized it as a "humorous situation that has escalated beyond control." In response to the excessive media coverage around the "genre," Klaxons banned the use of glow sticks during their performances. This was in April 2007. when there was a recurring need to explain this practice.

How New Rave Developed

The primary objective of the new rave movement was to mock the media. It generated discourse around a fictitious concept only for personal entertainment. Furthermore, according to Jamie Reynolds, a member of the band Klaxons, they intended to incorporate guitars into their music while infusing it with a distinct influence from the early 1990s scene. They observed that particular domain as an area that has not yet been fully explored or utilized. The intention was to incorporate the rave aspect while infusing it with charisma and esoterica. However, the primary objective was to establish ourselves as a prosperous pop music ensemble. The idea was to secure a contract with a prominent record label and embark on extensive concert tours, showing their music as a pop music ensemble. The original rave sound is rarely apparent in most bands associated with this genre. There were just a few standard analog synth lines. Due to their widespread popularity among genre followers, bands like Hot Chip, The Sunshine Underground, and CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy) are sometimes called New Rave. As one critic said, M.I.A. was "a new raver before it was old." Several people have openly said they have little to do with this genre. 

Characteristics

The visual style elements of the contemporary new rave scene have similarities to those in the original culture. The authentic rave culture predominantly focused on psychedelic aesthetics. Glowsticks, neon lights, and other light sources are prevalent in the Rave community, while followers of this subculture frequently characterize themselves by vivid and fluorescent colors. Musical groups' visual representation and style choices have predominantly shaped their followers. The New Rave is generally a transient trend the media dramatically influences rather than a substantial endeavor aimed toward genre evolution.
